GutenbergMD is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our app.
1. Data We Collect
Minimal Data Collection
GutenbergMD is designed to minimize data collection. We do not collect or transmit your notes to any server.
What We Store Locally (On Your Device Only)
- Your notes and documents – stored in your device’s local file system
- App preferences – theme selections, tags, and UI settings
- Note metadata – creation/modification dates, pin status, archive status
What We Don’t Collect
- Location data
- Device identifiers
- Browsing history
- Personal information (unless you voluntarily include it in your notes)
- Behavioral analytics or tracking
- Usage statistics
2. Billing and In-App Purchases
If you choose to subscribe to GutenbergMD Pro:
- Billing is processed through Google Play’s billing system
- Google handles payment information; we do not store card details
- Subscription status is stored locally on your device
- We use Google’s billing API only to verify active subscriptions

3. File Access
GutenbergMD requests access to files on your device to:
- Import markdown files and documents
- Export notes in multiple formats
- Access images embedded in your notes
You control which files we can access through Android’s file picker and permission system. We only access files you explicitly select.
4. Data Storage and Retention
- All your notes are stored locally on your device
- If you delete a note, it’s permanently removed (or moved to Trash, then permanently deleted after 30 days)
- Archived notes are kept until you manually restore or delete them
- No automatic backups are sent to our servers
5. Backup and Cloud Sync
GutenbergMD does not offer cloud backup or sync. Your notes exist only on your device. It is your responsibility to:
- Back up your device regularly
- Export important notes if you want to preserve them
- Transfer notes to another device manually
6. Third-Party Services
GutenbergMD uses the following third-party services:
Google Play Services
- In-app billing for Pro subscription
- Crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics) to improve app stability
- Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) to understand usage patterns
These services are subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
7. Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect locally stored data:
- Notes are stored in the app’s private data directory
- Data is not encrypted by default (stored as plain markdown files)
- Android’s built-in security features protect your device
Note: For sensitive information, consider using device-level encryption or storing notes in an encrypted folder.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We’ll notify you of material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date above. Continued use of GutenbergMD after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all your data (it’s in your device’s file system, accessible to you)
- Delete your notes at any time
- Export your notes in standard formats
- Uninstall the app and remove all associated data
